Description

We are looking to fill a full-time Business Services Officer role for one of our respected clients:  a Metis-owned lending institution in Kelowna.

The objective of the Business Services Officer is to maintain and grow our company’s operations, products, and services.  Reporting directly to the CEO the Business Services Officer will oversee daily activities.  You will possess strong business acumen and proven management of multiple staff.  High-level of proficiency in developmental lending, human resources, finance, and IT management in an office environment. Additionally, you will display a proven ability to develop and maintain an environment of trust, diversity, and inclusion within your team. You will have a high level of knowledge and understanding of the Metis Nation.

Objectives of this Role

  • Reporting directly to the CEO
  • Providing oversight and leadership to fellow staff, and operational support to the CEO
  • Providing recommendations to the CEO on budgetary and finance functions
  • Providing inspired leadership with staff, and clients to ensure proper operations of the organization
  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining compliance standards for files
  • Providing oversight on submissions, evaluations, and final recommendation for loan files and non-repayable contributions to be signed off by CEO
  • Developing, Implementing, and reviewing operational policies and procedures
  • Growing the efficiency of existing organizational processes and procedures to enhance and sustain the organization’s internal capacity
  • Ensuring operational activities remain on time and within a budget approved by the CEO
  • Tracking staffing requirements and hiring new employees in conjunction with CEO
  • Providing support to finance and administration functions of the corporation
  • Aiding CEO with the creation and implementation of policy, planning, and strategy decisions for Sask-Métis Economic Development Corporation (SMEDCO).
  • Actively pursuing strategic and operational objectives
  • Leading, motivating, and supporting a staff within a time-sensitive and demanding environment
  • Consulting with CEO; creating and implementing career development plans for staff with the future vision of SMEDCO as an affiliate of the Métis Nation-Saskatchewan.
  • Working with legal to ensure activities remain compliant with recovery of files
  • Working with Finance Officer to conduct budget reviews and report cost plans to CEO
  • Possessing excellent knowledge and understanding of all of the financial company’s products and services
  • Overseeing and compiling reports to the CEO
  • Providing verbal and written reports to the Board of Directors as requested
  • Other duties as assigned by the CEO from time-to-time, including special projects

Other Important Components

  • Extensive travel may be required
  • Must have a valid driver’s license at all times
  • Must have access to a reliable vehicle at all times
  • Excellent written and communication skills

Skills and Qualifications

  • Preferred Bachelor’s degree in business administration, or related field
  • Preferred 2+ years’ proven experience in a management position
  • Preferred 5 + years of small business lending experience
  • Strong budget development and oversight skills
  • Proficient with file compliance and Small Business lending and legal requirements
  • Demonstratable knowledge of Federal Economic Development Programming and audit procedures
  • ability to delegate responsibilities while maintaining organizational control of branch operations and customer service
  • Knowledge of general business software and aptitude to learn new applications; high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Knowledge of the Metis culture
